The international RIU chain was established by the Riu family in 1953 in Mallorca as a small holiday business and is now operated by the third generation of the family. The business specialises in holiday resorts and its renowned All Inclusive by RIU package is provided by more than 70% of its establishments. RIU is growing its portfolio of goods with its own brand of city hotels branded Riu Plaza, with the inauguration of its first city hotel in 2010. RIU Hotels & Resorts currently has 99 hotels in 19 countries that receive more than 4.9 million visitors each year and provide a total of 31,270 workers with jobs. RIU is currently the 38th rated chain in the world, one of the most famous in the Caribbean, the fourth largest in sales in Spain and the fourth largest in room numbers.
